It has been recently reported that a new manufacturing method for lithium-ion batteries may lead to smaller and lighter batteries that could be charged in just seconds. Batteries that can safely discharge rapidly would be useful for electric cars. The technology approach [1] only requires simple changes to the production process. Gerbrand Ceder, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology [2] (MIT), US, and his colleagues used computer simulations to model the movements of lithium iron phosphate ions and electrons.
